Many people suffers from sleep apnea problem generally in this condition people becomes unable to breathe for atleast10 seconds at the time during sleep. This inability to breathe increases slowly and finally surgery is the only way to treat obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Different types of surgeries for sleep apnea treatment are discussed below:
- Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty – This is the most common surgery that is used for OSA treatment. It is helpful in the treatment of tonsils and uvula. This surgery has shown a success of about 40 percent.
- Tongue surgery – Laser midline glossectomy and lingualplasty are both surgeries that are helpful in removing the part of your tongue that enables you to breathe clearly and treat your sleep apnea.
- Tracheotomy – This can be very effective to treat serious sleep apnea, generally it creates a hole in the windpipe to facilitate you relaxed breathing.
- Jaw surgery – maxillomandibular osteotomy (MMO), moves your jaw forward in an effort to enlarge your airway. It has shown very high success rates in the treatment of sleep apnea.
